Fixing Volume Shadow Service (VSS) Errors on DPM

I had some issues with VSS on some servers when deploying DPM backup recently.  The first few we’re related to netbackup agents installed at the same time as DPM. The solution was removing DPM…however there still we’re some errors on a few servers.

Microsoft PSS Provided the following fix:

Step 1.

Reregister the following dlls in the c:windowssystem32 folder

Net stop vss

Net stop swprv

regsvr32.exe  eventcls.dll

regsvr32.exe  swprv.dll

regsvr32.exe  vssui.dll

regsvr32.exe  vss_ps.dll

regsvr32.exe  msxml.dll

regsvr32.exe  msxml2.dll

regsvr32.exe  msxml3.dll

regsvr32.exe msxml4.dll

regsvr32.exe  ole32.dll

regsvr32.exe  oleaut32.dll

regsvr32.exe  es.dll

regsvr32.exe  stdprov.dll

regsvr32.exe “C:Program filesMicrosoft SQL server80COMsqlvdi.dll”

Net Start vss

Net Start swprv

Reboot the machine  and try running the list. If that doesn’t work

Step 2.

Install the  hot fix 940349 and reboot the machine.

If that doesn’t work

Step 3.

delete the subscriptions key from the following path


=> once the key gets  deleted we restart  the com+ services from services.msc
